Happy #WeddingWednesday! Today I’m sharing some budget-friendly tips when it comes to a really exciting part of wedding activities - getting engagement photos!
Engagement photos of course aren’t a necessity, but if you have it in your budget, it’s fun to get professional photos taken for your wedding website, save the dates, holiday cards, or just for hanging around your house reminding you that your wedding is coming up soon!
If you choose to get engagement photos, here are my budget-friendly tips:
Choose the same photographer. Often, your wedding photographer will throw in a complimentary engagement session, or one at a very discounted price, when you book their services for your wedding. Not only are you saving money, but you get to know your photographer and their style a little better and you have the opportunity to practice a bit for your wedding day.
Book early. We booked our wedding/engagement photographer 18 months in advance and she was the first vendor we booked. Booking early will help you find a photographer that meets your style and is also in your price range. If you wait too long to book, your choices might be slim and you may feel pressured into picking a photographer outside your budget.
Cash in your style trials. Your makeup stylist for your wedding day usually includes a trial in their booking cost. If you book your makeup stylist early, engagement photos are a great time to use your trial. This way, you aren’t spending extra to get your makeup done. The same can be done for your hair trial!
Shop your closet first. I budgeted to buy some new clothes for our session, but shopped my own closet as well. After finding my clothing items on sale from Macys, Nordstrom, and Loft, I paired them with shoes that I already had, one pair I forgot I even owned. This way, I wasn’t purchasing completely new outfits.
Choosing to go without? If engagement photos aren’t a necessity for you, but your photographer includes it in their package, ask them if you can forgo it in exchange for deducting some money off of your wedding day session. Negotiate a little so you can put that money toward another part of your wedding that you really care about!
